On April 25, 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the small village of Barpak of the Gorkha district. With a death toll of nearly 7,000 and 14,000 people injured, the country of Nepal is in need of desperate funds to rebuild damaged homes, provide food and shelter and fund various campaigns to help the needed. The country is calling for foreign help and humanitarian aid. Unfortunately, efforts to deliver aid has been difficult to achieve due to landslides as well a poor weather. The United Nations is estimating that more than 3 million people are in need of assistance. Start of the 2014 season….

Thank you to everyone that was able to come out and help support the New York Strangers Sports Organization fund raising dinner on May 17, 2014.  The NACIVT is going to be held in Las Vegas Nevada in 2014 and the club is looking to make the trip as easy as possible for the kids who want to participate in the yearly event.

Members will be trying to help sell raffle tickets this year to help alleviate the cost of the trip to the west coast.  The club is trying its best  to help everyone in our club have an enriched experience playing with our club, while learning all about the game and it’s history over the past 69 years.  So remember, find a New York Stranger club member and ask them about buying raffle tickets for this year.  They’re only $2 a ticket and it’s $5 for 3 tickets!

In case you missed the club’s slideshow video for the start of the 2014 season, the video has been reposted for viewing.  The link to the pictures from the banquet are up as well, and a few pictures from the dinner are up on the page now.  See you at our next banquet in September and good luck to all the participants who are competing in the NACIVT 2014 in Las Vegas Nevada.

2014 Chinese New Year Parade

Thanks to all the club members who came out to represent the club for the year of the horse, 4712.  The club leaders look forward to a great 2014.  A big thanks to Edison Chow for stepping up and taking on the responsibility of ensuring PS2 will be open for the club members and possible future members to come out and practice.

Pictures and Video have been uploaded on the club’s video and flickr page.  Apologies for the shaky video as this was our first time using the HD video camera for an event.  Enjoy the pictures/video in the mean time, and once again apologies if it gives you a headache watching the videos.

It’s getting cold out there….

With this being one of the coldest winters in the past few years, the New York Strangers Sports Organization began to help collect jackets for those who are in need to have something warm this winter season.  At our last fundraising tournament, the club was able to collect a bunch of jackets to help those in need of a jacket to keep warm.  Thanks to all those that helped out this winter, and remember, if you have an old jacket or know of someone who has a jacket they don’t need anymore, there are thousands upon thousands of people who can’t afford to buy a jacket to keep themselves warm.  Why not help keep an fellow New Yorker keep warm this winter season.
